Transition from 5th to 6th Grade

Transition from 5th to 6th Grade

We realize that the transition from 5th to 6th grade is a big one for both students and parents. Therefore, we try to provide as much information ahead of time as possible. First, the guidance counselor will go to all of the elementary schools to talk to the 5th graders about Keigwin. This happens during the winter months. In the spring the 5th graders and their teachers will come to Keigwin for a 6th grade orientation day. During that day the 5th graders will get a tour of the school, meet the Keigwin teachers, and talk with current 6th graders.

Once the new students arrive each fall we continue with transitional activities. In fact, the first several days of the school year are dedicated to educating the students on the expectations, rules, and layout of Keigwin. In addition, we invite the parents to attend an evening open house during the month of September so that they too become familiar with all that happens at Keigwin.
